Finished kitchen shots

We still have to paint and tile the backsplash, but the look of the kitchen is done. Here are some shots standing back so you can get the overall effect.

I put granite sealer on a scrap piece of our countertop yesterday and it definitely needs to be sealed. Maybe we can get to that later this week.

Done!

With the contractor's work that is. The windows and doors, the light rails and the beam wrap were finished today. He'll send someone out one more time for the final inspection and to do the little touch-ups we find. Now it's up to us to get the painting and tiling done.

Trimwork

They started work on the trim today and are nearly finished with the windows and doors. They still have to put up the light rail and wrap the beam. Dave thought they would be done tomorrow and could call for final inspection.

Cookin' with Gas!

The plumber came back today and finished the stove installation. Everything is done but trimwork. We have a fully functioning kitchen again! Just shy of 3 months.

Dave called to say he's had sick guys on the crew and is further behind, but promised to be out for the trimwork before the week is out.

More Good News, Bad News

Got back from our fabulous cruise to Alaska today (I've included one shot from Skagway), eager to come home to a functioning kitchen. The good news, we have a dishwasher! And a fridge in the kitchen! Bad news -- the stove is in the kitchen, hooked up, but not pushed into place. The burners do not work, but the oven does. I suspect they had trouble fitting the stove into the space alloted. I wonder how they are going to solve that problem. So no home cooked meal in the kitchen tonight. We still started bringing in the dishes from the shed to run through the dishwasher and put away. At least we can eat off plates with real silverware. :)

*Update* I guess the stove isn't in because the stove outlet was 4 pronged and our stove has a 3 pronged plug. The plumber hooked up the gas, but had to wait for the electrician to come back and change the cord on the stove. That was done Friday, but the plumber hasn't come back to turn on the gas. Hopefully he'll do it tomorrow. Dave got busy with another job last week and has us scheduled for Tuesday for the trim work.

Cabinet hardware

We started putting on what we have right now and discovered that our drawers seem out of alignment. Hopefully they are adjustable. Some of the cabinet doors are out of alignment but Dave plans to adjust them as he does finishing touches. Anyway, I like the look of the hardware. I also included the glass cabinets in a different light that shows off the texture a little more.

Flooring!

The floorer was here until about 7:00pm. He wasn't happy about the job our contractor had done on the subfloor so he had to spend the morning dealing with staples that stuck up and add a bunch of new staples along seams. We BARELY had enough material since the salesman forgot to account for the kneehole in the desk. He made it work though and it looks good. We have to wait 48 hours for the adhesive to cure before appliances can be moved in, but we're definitely in the home stretch now!

We were also able to pick up our glass cabinet doors. We got those in and they really look nice. We were very pleased with the way they turned out. Another batch of drawer pulls came in, but we're still waiting for the nickel cabinet door pulls.

Countertops finished

Our piece of steel came in on Friday so Dave came out and finished installing the little bar and the wall tops. The Marlmoleum was supposed to be delivered yesterday too, but they rescheduled to today.

Newly painted shed

Not much progress on the kitchen (still waiting for flooring, May 22nd) but we took advantage of the beautiful weather the last few days to get started on painting the shed. We only had enough leftover from the job last summer for one coat and had no trim paint. Paint stores aren't open on the weekend so we'll just have to wait for another nice day to finish. But at least you get an idea. :)

Sacha sure enjoyed the hot weather. She would lay in the hot sun, then take a dip in the wading pool, then back in the sun. By late afternoon, even she needed the shade.

Small steps

We've been working on the little details to wrap things up. We found a place to install the glass in our cabinet doors. Just waiting for an estimate to take the doors in. The pattern we've chosen is "Cotswold". We started making preliminary backsplash choices but don't have anything finalized yet. We've installed the hardware we were able to get locally on the office doors. We're waiting for delivery of the satin nickel pulls in the same style we ordered online last week.

Dave has one guy here a few hours every day finishing up with the plaster repair. I'm hoping he'll be done with the work tomorrow so we can take down the plastic from the doorways and start cleaning up. That should be the end the dirty work. Only trimwork and appliance installation will remain for the contractor. He'll wait until the flooring is in to do both of those things. We're hoping that all their work will be done and we can move back into the kitchen when we return from our cruise at the end of the month. Then it will be up to us to get the backsplash tiled.

Let there be light

And electricity. What an amazing difference from our old kitchen. We can see what we're doing! The microwave and vent are working. If we had running water we'd be in heaven. :)

We did have a mystery delivery show up on our porch today from the cabinet manufacturers. Dave ordered what we thought was veneer strips to cover the front of the side frig panels. It looks like they may have sent more panels instead. Wonder who is going to have to pay for that mistake.

Granite!

Probably the biggest one day transformation we'll see. Looks very nice. The wall caps aren't glued down because Dave wanted to wait to install the small bar and wanted to make sure they were all at the same height. Having the sink in really makes us long for running water. Dave said he'd bring the plumber back as soon as he could to hook up the sink for us. He'll have to come back for the appliance install after the flooring is done. Electricians are scheduled for tomorrow so we should be back in the light soon. Maybe we can start doing some cooking and prep in the kitchen tomorrow.

Good News, bad news

Good news -- the subfloor is in and ready for flooring. Bad news -- the earliest we could get on the schedule for installation is May 22nd... 3 weeks away! Argh! I'm hoping the plumbing can go ahead, otherwise we'll be just sitting here with nothing going on for more than 2 weeks.

We went out today and bought the light fixtures so we're ready to go with electrical finish work. We still need the pendant fixture for over the small bar, but we have something in mind. We just wanted to see if there was anything else out there we liked more and so far... nothing. Here's the pendant.

We brought the new sink and faucet down so the granite installers can make the cutouts. Can't wait to see how things look Monday evening.

Crown Molding

It's surprising what a difference a little detail like that can make. I think with that, the cabinet work is done. We got our flooring ordered and paid for but it won't be installed until sometime around the 16th -- or even the following week. We haven't heard any more about when the finish electrical work is getting done. Darcy will be working from home today so hopefully she'll get an update.

More Cabinets!

The office area cabinets are up and the kitchen cabinets are almost finished. The bookcase is the only one that has not yet been installed, though it is leaning in the space it will be attached. Everything looks really nice and it surprising how much bigger the room seems with cabinets in it. My worries about the office space being too small were unfounded. That area is plenty big for a desk.

The cabinets should be finished by the end of today. [I think that includes the crown molding.] Then they will move on to prepping the subfloor for Marmoleum. We've fallen behind getting that ready so we rushed out last night to pick a color and get the installation lined up. We finally chose Carribean. They're coming out to measure tomorrow, but it will be another 2-3 weeks before they can install so it looks like there will be a delay in the finish work. I don't think the appliances can go in until the flooring is down. We're kicking ourselves for the indecision about flooring, but we're hoping to have the electrical finish work done by the end of the week at least.
